Beauty does not equal worth. Getting to camp 2 from the summit of Cho Oyu, I looked my worst but felt my best after accomplishing one of my biggest dreams. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀After a recent panel discussion about women in the mountains, a man in the crowd asked me what dads could do to support their daughters. My response: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Don’t tell her she’s beautiful first. Tell her she’s strong, determined and capable of far more than she could ever imagine. Don’t lead with comments on her looks, her beauty or her youth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Young women and girls in our society spend so much of their lives hearing about looks first. We become conditioned to equate our value with our beauty. As a society, we need to stop leading conversations about women with critiques of their personal appearances. Comment below if you agree!
