Planning for Everest, a wedding, ACL reconstruction surgery, and supporting @rob.lea’s Ultimate World Tri (climb Everest, swim the English Channel and ride his bike across America in a sixth month period) is a lot right now. Deciding on bridesmaids dresses is one decision too many for today. I love the challenge of planning these projects- it’s a way to balance my masculine and feminine sides. Only 5 days until we leave for Everest! Time to get back to work! #climbforequality #triforequality

10 days until we leave for Everest/Chomolungma/Sagarmatha! #climbforequality @keen #keenambassador Photo: sunset en route to advanced base camp on Cho Oyu. One of the things I love most about being on an expedition is rising and sleeping with the movements of the sun, and how grounding it is to sleep on the earth for an extended period of time.

People have a lot of opinions about Everest/Chomolungma/Sagarmatha. I’ll admit, I used to have a strong opinion too. I thought Everest was passé. But a lot changed for me when I saw the mountain in real life. I knew right away I wanted to climb (and ski) it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I spent a lot of time researching different ways to climb an 8000m peak before going to Cho Oyu and Everest. I don’t go to the Himalayas to “conquer” and I am intentional about my approach to this climb. Since it's my first time going to almost 9000m, I decided to climb with @alpenglowexpeditions and the support of oxygen, Sherpas, and guides. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Alpenglow pays high altitude mountain workers top wages, outfits Sherpa in the best gear available, and places their safety at an equal level to their clients and guides. We'll practice Leave No Trace ethics on the mountains, including carrying out our own human waste (PSA: poop is trash too). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀For me, it’s important to have humility in how I approach the highest peak in the world and to do it with a margin of safety for my first time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It’s a huge privilege to be able to step foot on the mountain. We are conscientious of the issues and are making an effort to do better. I’m going with an open mind, a positive attitude, and a belief that climbing mountains (and sharing on social media) can bring out the best parts of the human spirit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#ClimbForEquality #everest2019

“You’re going to die…It’s not a good idea for you to go up there…How strong do you think you are?Maybe you should wait…” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀These are some of the reactions I get when I tell people about my ambitions in climbing and ski mountaineering. Of course, I don’t listen to what people say. But those voices creep up. Subsequently, it’s taken me a long time to see myself on top of the highest peaks. I want so badly for other women to have that opportunity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀My friend @sstroeer just started Aurora Women’s Expeditions (AWE) and is launching a new program to give a woman a $5k grant to climb a 6000m peak in Nepal this fall. Applications are due by May 1! See the link below or in profile to apply: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀https://www.awexpeditions.org/summit-scholarship ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#climbforequality
