I made my first turns after ACL surgery and my first turns of the 19-20 ski season yesterday! I am so stoked to be back on snow! They weren’t the most beautiful ski turns of my life and I didn’t set any record on the uphill but it was a solid start for me. The outing served as a powerful reminder of how important it is for us to make time for play (even as adults) and to do the things that bring us joy. I just had a check up with my orthopedic surgeon and I am cleared to go skiing with a few caveats! I must to ease back into it slowly, staying on terrain that I know is free of rocks, stumps or roots. It’s more about the uphill rather than the downhill. If it hurts or feels weird, I’ll take my skis off and walk down. I’ll be ultra conservative.With this recent snow and cold temps in Utah, it’s been hard for me not to get out and explore on my skis. Easing into it now will help me build strength and confidence for later in the season when it’s time to shoot and film and ski bigger lines. I still have a few more sessions of PT and I need to rebuild 1/2 cm of muscle on my left leg, but I’m optimistic I’ll return stronger than ever. I am so incredibly excited to start the 19-20 winter season!!! What a journey this ACL tear has been. Rappelling off the 46th floor of a skyscraper in San Francisco was one of the wildest experiences of my life! And what made it even better was that we helped raise over $300k for @outwardboundcalifornia that will go towards scholarships to get more folks outside.
