Closing Day at Alta 08

It’s officially a wrap on the ski season at Alta for this winter.  Another great winter has come and gone.  Usually, closing day makes me somewhat sad.  This year, however, I felt completely satiated, like the satisfaction you get at the end of a delicious, moderately portioned meal.  I had my fair share of face shots and blower pow and I was able to leave the parking lot at the end of the day with a smile on my face.

Here are some pics:

Lifestyle Shoot for Alta with Alexa Miller

On the 18th, a bunch of Roxy girls met up for a lifestyle shoot at Alta with Alexa Miller.  I’ve been a longtime fan of her photography, so it was rad to work with her on this.

Check out her portfolio:

Anyway, here are a couple of pics from the shoot:

As you can see, it was a nice, bright, sunshiny day!

Cruisin’ SLC

The weather in Utah is so unpredictable.  It’s one of the things that I love about living here.  It always keeps on you on your toes.  Two days ago, we had 80 degree weather.  Yesterday, it snowed 6" in the valley and 9" in the mountains.  I love it!

Two days ago, with spring in the air, I called my bffn (best friend for now), Iris Noack to see if she wanted to go for a bike ride.  Not just any bike ride but a ride on our beach cruisers for dinner and drinks in downtown SLC.

Here’s my cruiser in all it’s glory.  I bought it for $25 at Deseret Industries (which is basically Salt Lake’s version of Salvation Army).  Got the streamers for $2.99 at Toys ‘R’ Us.  The basket, sadly, was the most expensive part on my bike.

We met up at my house by the U, and cruised all over town.

Here we are, ready to ride.

We started by bombing through the hills by the U and through campus, then by 9th and 9th, through Liberty Park, ending up at Channon Cafe for some delicious Thai food.  If you haven’t been there to eat already, I would highly recommend it.

Here we are at dinner, enjoying some of the most delicious Thai food in Salt Lake City.  The red curry was so yummy!  When you order, they ask you how many stars you want for spiciness, 1 being mild and 3 being hot.  Iris tried to order 3 stars, and the waiter looked shocked.  I made her tone it down to 2 stars for me.

After a fun night out, we took UTA Trax back up to the U.  They let you bring your bikes on, so it’s a great way to go out without having to drive.  It’s only $1.75 for a ride, but I only had a twenty dollar bill, and the Trax gives you silver dollars for change.

Anyway, it was a super fun night, and we were glad we did it on Monday, because it snowed yesterday on Tuesday.  We want to try and do this throughout the summer, so if any of you have beach cruisers out there, let me know!

Snowbird Shoot

On Wednesday April 9th, I received a call from Snowbird asking me if I wanted to come and do a photo shoot for their national ad campaign the next morning.  It was snowing hard that afternoon, and the snow was beginning to pile up.  We have had so many waist deep pow days this year!  It’s so rad.

The next morning, they called me at 6am to confirm.  We were to meet at the tram deck for a 7:30 tram.  The clouds were just beginning to move, and I was excited about another bluebird powder day.  Here’s a picture of the drive up the canyon:

I barely made it up to the bird in time.  We got on the early tram and set up the shot.  The plan was to do a shot of two skiers at a time down the Cirque, with the tram parked overhead.  Unfortunately, the clouds rolled in again, and Mount Superior was not visible, but it was still some great skiing!  Here’s a shot of my fresh tracks down the Cirque:

Spring skiing in Utah is my favorite.  We will have 60 degree weather in the valley, and powder in the mountains.  I love it!

Overall, it was a great day of bell-to-bell skiing.

Saturday, April 5th, Alta hosted a free demo day at the resort.  All 07-08 Demo Skis on sale for $299! Call the Alta Ski Shop about your favorite model: (801) 799-2266.

The Bliss is to the right.

The Roxy Bliss Skis are better than any day at the spa. Who needs a facial when you can face some fresh powder instead? Powerful, stable and quick, these skis let you handle the snow with ease, leaving you glowing like you just stepped out of the park.

These skis are going fast, so check them out before they are gone.
