Liberty Park Shoot

Here are some pics from Dan Campbell (www.dancampbellphotography.com) from a summer lifestyle shoot we did at Liberty Park a few weeks ago.

I’m really stoked on how these came out!  They are way different than the types of shoots I usually do.

Alice Owens was also there, and we spent the day bombing the grassy knolls on our beach cruiser bikes and doing side-by cartwheels (stay tuned for more pics)

Before we took this shot, I was trying to climb the tree behind me to hang from one of the branches.  It was a really thick, big tree and being the incredibly short girl I am, I was struggling to find a way to get up.  I stuck my hand into a big hole on the branch and was going to pull up on it, until I felt the most intense stinging sensation in my middle finger.  Turns out it was a wasps nest!  I started screaming in pain–haha, I had no idea how much those stings hurt.  Anyway, my right middle finger is starting to swell in this picture.

Despite the wasp incident, it was still a super fun shoot and I can’t wait to do some more lifestyle stuff with Dan.  He brought some crazy light set up and did such an amazing job photographing our activities. 🙂

Park City Freestyle Huckfest

This past Saturday at the Utah Olympic Park I judged and watched the PC Huckfest at the water ramps.  I think we had almost 60 athletes competing ranging in age from 6- 47.  The competition was so well organized and well run and the turnout was amazing.  It was great for me as a coach to see the level of progression that my athletes have had over the past couple of years.  Some of the highlights included Andre Dumas doing a triple misty flip (INSANE) off the Mongo jump and the Dingman girls (who are 6, 9, 11) going big off the single.  Travis Perkins did a hysterical job announcing and Mick Berry from PC Freestyle stoked out all the kids with tons of great giveaways at the end.

Here are some pics:

Some of my great coaching.  Sometimes the athletes just need a little push…

Hellgate Climbing

Ohhhhhhh it feels so good to be back on the rocks!  I barely climbed at all last summer and I missed it so much.  I’ve been training lately at Momentum Climbing gym to get some strength and endurance built up and tonight was my first night climbing outside in some time.  Jake Hollander and I went up to Hellgate in between Alta and Snowbird and the cool mountain breeze and grippy limestone felt absolutely amazing.  We only had time to do two routes on the newer section of the area, a 5.10 and a 5.11 and I’m feeling stronger than ever!  I have a number of climbing shoots coming up (including a big one with Getty in late fall) so check back for some good action soon, but here are some pictures from the evening:

Here’s one of Jake packing our stuff up.

Sleepless in Seattle

My parents were getting ready to leave for Seattle to visit my brother and his new wife and on a whim, I asked if I could come along.  I figured it would be better than spending the weekend at home with my 19-year-old brother and his partying friends.  They booked me a ticket Thursday night, and on Friday night, I departed to Seattle.

As soon as I touched down, the family swooped me up in the rental Impala and we went to one of the finest sushi restaurants in Seattle, Nishino.  I knew I was in for a treat and as soon as I laid my eyes on the menu, my mouth began to water.  Before we ate any food, however, we were given hot, wet wash cloth–an Oshibori–and it felt wonderful having just gotten off the airplane.  I began my meal with miso and hot clams, a deep red soup with a mild ocean flavor and a seaweed salad that tasted like it had been in a ginger ponzu marinade.  We had oyster tempera that was so fresh it felt like a wave misting the taste buds and a unique foie gras an shitake mushroom appetizer that was served in a thick, rich soy red wine reduction sauce.  The blackened cod in a light miso sauce was better than candy–flaky and succesulent and the fish peeled away like I’ve never seen fish do before.  We had soft-shell crab with ponzu and sashimi wrapped around fresh arugala.  The banana tempura desert with lychee and chocolate mochi was the perfect finish to an exceptional meal.

5 Stars!!!!!

After that meal, we went back to my brother’s 2-bedroom condo, and I slept on the floor all weekend–hence the title.

Saturday we went up the Olympic Peninsula.  We spent many hours in the car, but once we got there, we climbed trees and hiked around the beach.
