SIA 2011

I just finished up the SIA Snow Show for 2011 in Denver. For those of you unfamiliar with the snow biz, SIA stands for SnowSports Industries America. SIA is a huge tradeshow where almost every brand related to snow comes and shows off their products to buyers, retailers, athletes and media. This year, I was working at Leki’s booth helping to show off the new line of gloves and poles. Sure, it can be hard to take a few days off skiing during the middle of my season but I personally enjoy being involved in sales. As athletes, we always have tons of ideas and opinions about what we like, what colors are the best, what to wear and how to wear it. Working at a sales event like SIA lets me get in touch with buyers of real shops across the US and I love talking to them about what sells and what doesn’t and why. It gives me an extra edge as I go forward as a designer and marketing and sales consultant.

Here are some pics from my travels:

Outside the Convention Center. Forrest and his Jones Splitboard. The Big Blue bear! Melanie McLean from Leki and me held it down at the Leki booth. Arian Finch from Atomic and me!

Working at the show is exhausting but overall, I had a wonderful week connecting with industry friends, new and old.

5 Cool Things from winter Outdoor Retailer Tradeshow, Salt Lake City, UT

I’m like a kid in a candy store at Outdoor Retailer walking through a stadium sized building loaded with all of next year’s outdoor goodies! I love checking out the colors, the fashion, the new designs and I’m always on the look out for cool stuff. Here are some of my top picks from winter 2011:

Foam Plus

image

Foam plus is a recycled foam made out of leftover scraps. In the past, this waste was either incinerated or sent to a landfill. These guys are reclaiming it, grinding it up and making it into everything from flip flops to flooring. I love seeing sustainable products – for me, that is one of the most important things I look for in a company, especially in the outdoor market.

Injinji Toesocks

IMG_0017IMG_0018

I love toesocks! It feels so good to have my toes separated, especially inside ski boots. After a long day on the hill, I like being able to spread apart my toes and do some foot yoga. I love how these feel and look and the new colors and stripes are cute.

Smith Optics Skyline sunglasses

IMG_0020IMG_0025

Alexa Miller and me looking fly in the Smith Skyline sunglasses. These shades are fashion forward, light on the face with a super technical lens for driving and shredding! A must have from winter OR.

Luna Chocolate Dipped Coconut

Delicious! A brand new flavor. What else can I say? Bringing a little taste of the tropics to the snow. Yum.

Nemo tents and pads

IMG_0010

Their new sleeping pads are super comfy, super light and extremely packable. They are perfect for camping on land or snow and will help you get a good nights rest now matter where you are. They even have a sleeping pad built for two!
